As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s health system and eliminate preventable disabilities, PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation), with the support of MiracleFeet, successfully conducted a 2-Day Basic Ponseti and Cast Application Training from August 14th–15th, 2025, at the Ragaray Hotel Conference Center, Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

The training was designed to enhance the technical capacity of clinicians providing care in Clubfoot Clinics across Oyo State, ensuring that children born with clubfoot receive early, effective, and standardized treatment using the Ponseti Method—a globally recognized, evidence-based approach for correcting congenital clubfoot.

The workshop brought together 12 dedicated clinicians from Clubfoot Clinics in Oyo and Saki, who participated in a series of intensive and practical sessions. Facilitated by highly experienced professionals—Dr. James Adeniran, Dr. Allen Taylor, and Mr. David Eboh—the sessions covered a comprehensive curriculum on the principles and practice of the Ponseti Method. Participants were guided through key topics such as diagnosis, manipulation techniques, bracing protocols, relapse prevention, and patient counseling.

As part of the Ponseti training, participants learned key techniques, including safe cast removal, reapplication, correction methods, and the use of proper materials and tools to ensure patient comfort and effective outcomes. This practical component provided participants with the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge through live demonstrations and hands-on exercises under expert supervision.

Following the clinical sessions, participants proceeded to a Cast Training session, which focused on the use of tablets and mobile applications for patient tracking, data entry, progress monitoring, and reporting. The integration of these digital innovations aims to strengthen clinic-level data management, improve case follow-up, and enhance overall treatment outcomes for children living with clubfoot.

Beyond technical learning, the training also provided a platform for collaboration, peer exchange, and problem-solving among healthcare providers. Participants discussed challenges faced in their respective clinics and explored innovative strategies to improve early identification, referral, and long-term care within the primary healthcare system.

Through initiatives like this, PLAN Foundation continues to advance its mission of building healthier, more inclusive communities by promoting evidence-based practices, capacity development, and cross-sector collaboration in healthcare delivery.
