PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation) is a non-governmental organization with over two decades of work in public health, non-communicable diseases, disability, and poverty alleviation. PLAN Foundation focuses on marginalized and vulnerable populations, including women, young girls, and persons with disabilities.
Clubfoot is the most common congenital disability globally, and early treatment is crucial for improving mobility and quality of life. Timely diagnosis, especially within the first few weeks of life, can significantly enhance the success of treatment. However, in Nigeria, access to treatment is hindered by poverty, misinformation, and cultural misconceptions, turning a treatable condition into a lifelong disability.
MiracleFeet, a US-based organization, is supporting PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation) a non-governmental organization based in Ibadan, Oyo State in providing early diagnosis, referral, corrective treatment, care and support for children with clubfoot who are 5 years old or below, will begin in Oyo State in October 2024.
The project is planned to expand to Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti States in the following years.
The Club foot Program’s Objectives Include:
- Equipping health facilities in Oyo State to provide treatment to 60 new children.
- Establishing referral links to promote early diagnosis and treatment.
- Supporting families to ensure adherence to the treatment protocol.
- Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to strengthen results.
- Engaging stakeholders to integrate clubfoot treatment into the national health system for sustainability.
