In support of activities marking the 50th anniversary of United Christian Secondary School, Omi-Adio, Oyo State, PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation) conducted a community medical outreach aimed at promoting health awareness, early detection of common health conditions, and access to essential health information.
The outreach, held on Saturday, 19 September 2026, brought together members of the Omi-Adio community, Alumni of the school, and other participants who attended the anniversary celebration. More than 300 people benefited from the medical and health awareness services provided during the event.
The medical outreach featured four service stations, where members of the medical team attended to participants and provided basic health screening services. The key services offered included blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, and malaria screening.
The outreach provided an opportunity for participants to know their health status and receive appropriate guidance based on their screening results. It also served as an avenue to encourage individuals to pay greater attention to their health and seek professional medical care when necessary.
Participants who recorded significantly elevated blood pressure were referred to and attended to by the doctors at the outreach. They received medical advice on blood pressure management, while those who required medication were provided with appropriate drugs and instructions on their proper use. Similarly, individuals who tested positive for malaria were provided with medication packs and given instructions on how to use them appropriately.

Raising Awareness on Free Clubfoot Treatment
Beyond the medical screening services, PLAN Foundation also used the occasion to increase community awareness about its free clubfoot treatment programme
A dedicated information and publicity desk was established at the event, where participants were provided with flyers and information about clubfoot, the importance of early detection, and how affected children can access free treatment. The awareness activity encouraged parents, caregivers, family members, and community residents to pay attention to signs of clubfoot in newborns and young children and to seek treatment as early as possible. Early identification and referral can significantly improve treatment outcomes and help children affected by clubfoot grow, walk, and participate fully in everyday activities.
The clubfoot awareness component also provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and learn more about the free treatment services available through PLAN Foundation’s clubfoot programme. The outreach recorded significant participation from community members and alumni of United Christian Secondary School. The strong turnout reflected the importance of taking basic health services and health information closer to communities, particularly during gatherings that bring together large numbers of people.
For many participants, the outreach provided more than just routine screening. It offered an opportunity to identify potential health concerns early, receive professional guidance, access basic medication where required, and learn about available health services.
The activity also demonstrated the value of integrating health promotion and awareness activities into community events, creating opportunities to reach people who may otherwise have limited access to health information and preventive services.
Outreach Concludes After Supplies Are Exhausted
The medical outreach continued until the available medications and testing supplies were exhausted. The malaria and blood sugar testing kits were fully utilised due to the high number of participants seeking the services. Blood pressure checks continued for participants after the other testing materials had been depleted.
The successful completion of the outreach underscores the significant demand for accessible community-based health services and the importance of continued investment in preventive healthcare and health education.
Through interventions such as this, PLAN Foundation continues to strengthen community health awareness, promote early detection of health conditions, support access to essential healthcare information, and increase awareness of free clubfoot treatment services for children.
The Omi-Adio outreach formed part of PLAN Foundation’s broader commitment to working with communities and stakeholders to improve health outcomes and promote healthier and more informed communities across Oyo State.ity and opportunity.
