Ibadan, Nigeria. Monday, April 28th, 2025. 4:00pm (WAT)

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025, celebrated annually on April 28, has been dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of safe and healthy working conditions across the globe. This year’s theme, “Revolutionizing Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work,” emphasizes the transformative power of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in creating safer, healthier workplaces. PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation) proudly joins the global observance and highlights its commitment to health and safety through its robust programs and advocacy.

As an established health and development-focused non-governmental organization, PLAN Foundation has been a pivotal player in Nigeria and beyond for over two decades, driving change through evidence-based advocacy, capacity building, and service delivery. With its focus on public health, non-communicable diseases, disability inclusion, poverty alleviation, and climate-smart agriculture, the organization has impacted over 24 states in Nigeria and continues to play an influential role at national, regional, and global levels.

In line with this year’s theme, PLAN Foundation shows the profound role that artificial intelligence and digitalization can play in improving workplace health and safety. With AI and digital tools revolutionizing the way we work, these technologies have the potential to enhance risk assessments, automate safety monitoring, and provide real-time data for decision-makers to ensure safer working environments for all, including marginalized and vulnerable populations. The integration of these tools into health and safety systems is crucial for improving overall well-being, especially for those in hard-to-reach communities, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

Empowering a Healthier, Safer Future for All

As we commemorate World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025, PLAN Foundation calls on all stakeholders—including governments, civil society organizations, and private sector partners—to embrace the potential of AI and digitalization to revolutionize workplace health and safety standards. It is through collaboration and innovation that we can create a world where every worker, regardless of their background or circumstances, is ensured a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment. PLAN Foundation continues to be at the forefront of promoting digital tools and policies that prioritize health, safety, and well-being, especially for those in the most vulnerable sectors of society. The future of work is one where health and safety are not just a priority but a fundamental right, and AI and digitalization are pivotal to achieving this vision.

PLAN Foundation is a member of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC), the World Patients Alliance (WPA), the International AIDS Society (IAS), the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+), the Stop TB Partnership, the International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO), the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (IUATLD), the Global Health Council (GHC), as well as various other relevant regional and global networks, movements, and professional associations aligned with its vision of a Nigeria where the individual, family, and community are adequately empowered to protect themselves against poverty, underdevelopment, and the spread of diseases.
