PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation joins the global community in commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026 under the theme: “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.”

The annual commemoration serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to break the silence, challenge stigma, and promote dignity, equality, and access to menstrual health and hygiene for girls and women everywhere.

At PLAN Foundation, we recognize that menstruation is not just a health issue, but also a matter of human rights, dignity, education, and social inclusion. Millions of girls and women continue to face challenges related to period poverty, discrimination, lack of awareness, inadequate sanitation facilities, and limited access to menstrual health products and services. These barriers negatively affect their confidence, education, health, and overall well-being.

As an organization committed to health advocacy, youth empowerment, gender equality, social inclusion, and, most importantly, the wellbeing, reproductive health, and rights of women and girls, PLAN Foundation remains dedicated to promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and advocating for policies and programs that ensure no girl is left behind because of her period.

This commitment is reflected in several of our interventions and projects, including the ACCESS Project and other community-based initiatives focused on improving the lives, health, safety, and opportunities of women, girls, and vulnerable populations.

Through advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and grassroots interventions, PLAN Foundation continues to champion inclusive health and development solutions across communities.

PLAN Foundation therefore calls on governments, policymakers, schools, healthcare providers, development partners, community leaders, and the media to intensify efforts towards:

  • Ending period stigma and discrimination
  • Improving access to affordable menstrual products
  • Expanding menstrual health education and awareness
  • Promoting safe and inclusive sanitation facilities
  • Supporting the health, dignity, and rights of girls and women

As the world marks Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, we reaffirms its unwavering commitment to creating inclusive communities where girls and women can thrive without barriers, shame, or inequality associated with menstruation.

Together, we can build a future where every period is managed with dignity, confidence, safety, and support.
