Report On the Biannual Review and Planning Meeting Under the ACCESS Project In Oyo State
PLAN FOUNDATION REPORT ON THE BIANNUAL REVIEW AND PLANNING MEETING UNDER THE ACCELERATING COMMUNITY COMMITMENT TOWARDS EXPANDING SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS IN OYO STATE (ACCESS PROJECT), FUNDED BY AMPLIFYCHANGE
HELD ON JUNE 26, 2025
The Project Advisory Committee (PAC) of the ACCESS Project reconvened in June for its second Biannual Review and Planning Meeting, hosted at the PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation office. Established to provide strategic oversight, technical direction, and expert input, the PAC continues to play a pivotal role in guiding the ACCESS Project toward its goal of improving adolescent sexual and reproductive health outcomes in Nigeria.
The June meeting was convened with the primary objective of reviewing the progress achieved so far, identifying challenges, and outlining strategic priorities for the next phase of implementation.
Specifically, the agenda focused on:
- Evaluating the progress and outcomes from the most recent iChoose Peer Educators’ activities
- Discussing key operational challenges and lessons learned during the previous implementation cycle
- Defining strategic focus areas for the next phase of the ACCESS Project
- Strengthening coordination among stakeholders and partners to ensure cohesive, youth-centered interventions
A major highlight of the meeting was the thorough assessment of the findings of the Operational Research Endline Reports. The review indicated that healthcare workers are now delivering more effective services, leading to increased youth access to these services. There are also glaring evidences of increased knowledge about sexual and reproductive health issues among the students of the secondary schools in the study population compared to those of the control groups.
The meeting also featured an evaluation of the iChoose Peer Educators’ activities, focusing on their impact on adolescent knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to sexual and reproductive health. The committee reviewed both the successes and areas needing improvement, emphasizing the importance of continuous adaptation to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
In addition, members of the committee discussed challenges encountered during implementation, ranging from limited community engagement to gaps in capacity and coordination. These discussions yielded valuable insights and lessons that will inform more targeted and context-specific strategies in the next phase of the project.
The strategic planning segment of the meeting focused on identifying key actions and priorities for the extension phase to ensure that the ACCESS Project remains responsive to the needs of adolescents, particularly those in underserved communities. Emphasis was placed on enhancing inclusivity, deepening stakeholder engagement, and reinforcing accountability mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with remarks from the Executive Director of PLAN Foundation, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to all committee members for their continued commitment and invaluable contributions. He reaffirmed the organization’s pledge to incorporate the committee’s recommendations into the planning and implementation of the next project phase, thereby strengthening collective efforts to advance adolescent health and wellbeing across the project sites.
