Report on Advocacy and Strategic Mobilisation Workshop. Held at Academy Suites, Oke-Ado, Ibadan. Date: December 17th 2024

INTRODUCTION

The Advocacy and Strategic Mobilisation Workshop, under the EMBASSY Project, was organized by PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation to develop a comprehensive resource mobilisation plan for the initiative. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Benson aimed to equip stakeholder with the knowledge and tools required for effective advocacy and resource mobilisation covered in details Understanding of Resource Mobilisation.

Resource mobilisation he stated as a critical process that involves obtaining the resources necessary to implement planned activities effectively. It is a multifaceted concept that comprises the following components:

• Resources: The essential items or services required for organizational operations.
• Mechanisms: The processes and strategies employed to acquire the resources.
• Resource Providers: The individuals or organizations that supply these resources.

Dr. Benson highlighted that resource mobilisation extends beyond traditional fundraising. It requires leveraging diverse mechanisms and engaging a variety of resource providers to secure both monetary and non-monetary contributions. Participants were guided to conceptualize resource mobilisation as a holistic strategy integrating resources, mechanisms, and providers.

Mechanisms for Resource Mobilisation

During the workshop, the facilitator outlined several practical mechanisms that organizations can utilize to secure resources effectively. These include:

Submitting Grant Proposals: Applying for funding from national and international donors.
Hosting Special Events: Organizing events to raise awareness and funds.

Running Small Businesses: Generating income through enterprise activities.

Soliciting Donations: Engaging individuals and organizations to provide financial contributions.

Encouraging Unsolicited Contributions: Creating opportunities for spontaneous support from benefactors.

Types of Resources for Mobilisation

Dr. Benson emphasized the importance of diversifying the types of resources mobilized to meet organizational goals. These resources include:

Monetary Resources: Funds for specific projects, grant initiatives, or core operational needs.

Technical Assistance: Access to training, expert consultations, and programmatic inputs.

Human Resources: Contributions such as volunteers, secondees, and pro bono consultancy services.

Material Goods: Physical assets like office equipment, training materials, vehicles, and medical supplies.

Free Services and Facilities: Access to office spaces, training venues, and transportation services without cost.

The workshop provided participants with invaluable insights and actionable strategies for resource mobilisation under the EMBASSY Project. Through Dr. Benson’s expert facilitation, attendees gained a deeper understanding of resource mobilisation as a dynamic and strategic process, laying the groundwork for the successful implementation of the EMBASSY Project’s objectives.
