REPORT ON 2-DAY TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING TO REVIEW PROGRESS AND SET PRIORITIES

PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation) successfully convened a two-day Board of Directors Meeting from 9–10 July 2026 at the Academy Suites Conference Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State. The meeting brought together members of the Board, management, and key staff to review organisational performance, assess progress across programmes, and define strategic priorities that will strengthen PLANs impact and long-term sustainability.
The meeting commenced with the adoption of the minutes of the previous Board meeting and a review of action points, providing an opportunity to evaluate progress made on earlier resolutions and discuss emerging priorities for the organisation.
Executive Director Presents Organisational Progress
The Executive Director of PLAN Foundation, Mr. Obatunde Oladapo, delivered a strategic overview of activities, highlighting major achievements recorded across ongoing programmes, particularly the ACCESS Project and the MiracleFeet Clubfoot Project. He outlined key milestones and successes achieved and the challenges encountered during project delivery.
Mr. Oladapo reaffirmed PLAN’s commitment to evidence-based programming, innovation, strategic partnerships, and accountability, emphasizing the need to continually strengthen institutional capacity while delivering sustainable interventions that improve the lives of vulnerable populations across Nigeria.
The Board commended the dedication of staff and acknowledged the Foundation’s continued compliance with donor requirements, commitment to transparency, and growing reputation as a credible organisation advancing health and social development policies across Nigeria.
One of the highlights of the retreat was the sustainability session facilitated by renowned public health expert, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella. During the session, she challenged participants to rethink organizational sustainability beyond dependence on donor funding. She emphasized the need for diversified resource mobilisation through strategic partnerships, local philanthropy, and innovative financing mechanisms. Dr. (Mrs.) Stella also showed the critical role of the Board of Directors in providing strategic leadership, strengthening governance structures, ensuring institutional accountability, and driving the long-term growth and sustainability of the PLAN Foundation.
Participants also benefited from presentations by Mr. Kayode Akinola, Director of Koptech Systems International, who demonstrated how Geographic Information Systems (GIS), digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and data-driven innovations can strengthen programme planning, monitoring, reporting, beneficiary tracking, and evidence-based decision-making.
In addition, Mrs. Bose Ojo, PLAN Foundation’s Gender and Social Inclusion Officer and Resource Mobilisation Officer, provided updates on the organisation’s ongoing fundraising efforts and proposals submitted to development partners.
Sustainability and Innovation Take Centre Stage
The second day of the meeting focused on the PLAN’s future direction through strategic sessions on sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, and institutional growth.
Departmental Reports Highlight
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of departmental performance reports by the Programmes, Administration, Finance, Logistics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Advocacy, Strategic Communication and Media, and Gender and Social Inclusion units.
The presentations showcased achievements recorded over the review period, lessons learned, operational challenges, and priorities for the past months. Board members engaged in constructive discussions, offering strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening programme implementation, improving operational efficiency, enhancing financial accountability, and reinforcing communication and organisational systems.
She also introduced the proposed Research and Publications Programme, designed to strengthen evidence generation, document programme outcomes, and enhance PLAN’s contribution to policy advocacy, development discourse, and its visibility.
Renewed Commitment to Greater Impact
The Board meeting concluded with renewed commitment from both the Board of Directors and management to advance the PLAN’s strategic objectives and expand its impact across Nigeria. Board members expressed confidence in the organisation’s leadership and workforce, commending the progress recorded while encouraging continued innovation, collaboration, accountability, and excellence in programme delivery.
The outcomes of the meeting provide a clear roadmap for strengthening PLAN Foundation’s institutional capacity, expanding strategic partnerships, embracing innovation, and sustaining high-quality interventions that improve health outcomes, promote social justice, and empower vulnerable communities across the country.
