REPORTING PERIOD: Q4/FY25
COUNTRY/REGION: NIGERIA/SOUTH-WEST
PREPARED BY: PLAN HEALTH ADVOCACY AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
SUBMISSION DATE: 24/07/2025

Executive Summary

PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation, with support from MiracleFeet, are operating two clinics in Ogbomoso and Ibadan, the clinics provided clubfoot treatment care to children with clubfoot in the state. The Ogbomoso clinic is a private/missionary hospital and operates at the Orthopedic Clinic of Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), while the Ibadan clinic is located at Ring Road State Hospital, a government-owned facility.

To enhance the treatment quality being provided by the clinics, Advanced Ponseti training was conducted for 7 clinicians of which 6 persons completed the training. These clinics can now actively treat and manage older patients for the treatment of clubfoot.

To foster collaboration, PLAN Foundation partnered with PCDF, leveraging on their consultants to facilitate the training sessions.

However, challenges were encountered for enrollment patients due to preferences for traditional bone setters, and distance to where the clinics are located.
To address these issues, PLAN Foundation implemented targeted mitigation strategies:

1. Collaborated with focal persons for topical and neglected disease in the Primary Healthcare Centers across the 33 Local Government Area of the State to raise awareness about the cost-free treatment and management of clubfoot.

2. Engaged MiracleFeet for approval to saturate more clinics in the state to bring the service closer to the people.
