Mid-Term Annual Stakeholder Meeting EMBASSY Project Held At Grand Serene Hotel, Iyaganku Quarters, Ibadan.
MID-TERM ANNUAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING UNDER THE ELIMINATING MULTIPLE BARRIERS TO SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICE AMONG YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES (EMBASSY PROJECT) HELD AT GRAND SERENE HOTEL, IYAGAKU OUARTERS, IBADAN.

INTRODUCTION
The Mid-term Annual Stakeholders’ Meeting of the Eliminating Multiple Barriers to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services among Young Girls and Women with Disabilities in Oyo State, Nigeria (EMBASSY Project) was successfully held on 16th April 2025. The meeting served as a platform to provide a comprehensive update on the project’s progress, highlighting key achievements, challenges encountered, and the overall development since its inception.
Funded by AmplifyChange, the EMBASSY Project is implemented by PLAN Health Advocacy and Development Foundation (PLAN Foundation). The overarching goal of the project is to eliminate the complex and intersecting barriers that limit access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services for young girls and women with disabilities in Oyo State.


ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION
The meeting convened over 39 stakeholders from a wide range of sectors. Notable attendees included representatives from government ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, and the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Oyo State Agency for Persons with Disabilities; academic institutions including the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan; Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery; and the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology. Stakeholders from the Ministry of Justice and the Oyo State House of Assembly were also present.
Key community actors such as religious and traditional leaders, representatives of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Oyo State Chapter, Community Birth Attendants, and leading media professionals across the state also participated actively in the meeting.
OPENING ADDRESS
The meeting commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Executive Director of PLAN Foundation. He outlined the milestones achieved by the EMBASSY Project over the past 18 months and reaffirmed the project’s core objective: to ensure inclusive and equitable access to SRH services for young girls and women with disabilities. He commended stakeholders for their steadfast support and emphasized the need for sustained collaboration to build upon the project’s progress.
PRESENTATIONS AND TECHNICAL SESSIONS
A series of technical sessions and presentations enriched the meeting, facilitated by subject-matter experts with extensive experience in health, disability, and community development. The sessions built upon insights from the earlier 2-Day Stakeholders’ Sensitization and Consensus-Building Meeting.
Facilitators included:
- Dr. Titilayo Odetola, Head of Department, Community Nursing, University of Ibadan
- Dr. Patricia Ogunmola, Community Health Practitioner, Nurse, and Lecturer at Ajayi Crowther University
- Mr. Siji Ganiyu, Former Provost, Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology
Key presentations addressed the following topics:
- Mainstreaming Disability into Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Services: Gaps and Prospects for a More Inclusive Response.
- Providing Optimum Sexual and Reproductive Health Services: Taking Women with Special Needs into Consideration.
- Integrating Disability and Inclusion Education into the Training of Community Healthcare Workers.
- These sessions sparked robust dialogue and thoughtful contributions from participants, fostering shared understanding and collaborative strategies for future action.
CONCLUSION
The Mid-term Stakeholders’ Meeting was a critical moment for reflection, learning, and strengthening accountability. It reaffirmed the shared commitment of stakeholders to the mission of the EMBASSY Project and the broader goal of achieving inclusive, high-quality, and dignified SRH services across Oyo State.
