REPORT ON THE SENSITIZATION VISIT
INTRODUCTION
The Accelerating Community Commitment towards Expanding Sexual and Reproductive Health service for Women and Girls in Oyo State (ACCESS Project) commenced with a series of strategic sensitization visits to key stakeholders. These visits were carefully planned to gain support and build partnerships needed for the project’s success. The goal was to secure the backing of important institutions and agencies in Oyo State. This teamwork helped create a strong base for the project, especially in promoting reproductive health education for secondary school students through the Expanded Life Planning (ELP) Program.
KEY STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGED
The sensitization visits targeted a range of high-level stakeholders whose influence and cooperation are pivotal to the ACCESS Project’s goals.
The stakeholders include:

FOCUS OF DISCUSSIONS
The discussions during these visits were centered on the following key objectives:

ELPE (Expanded Life Planning Education) Program: Detailed discussions on the ELPE, a forward-thinking educational intervention designed to provide comprehensive reproductive health education in public secondary schools.
Policy Advocacy: Strategies for obtaining policy endorsement and institutional support for the adoption of the ELP Program in the state’s education system.
Operational Research: Plans for evidence generation through operational research, spearheaded by the Department of Nursing at the University of Ibadan. This research will evaluate the impact of the ELPE Program pilot project and provide data-driven insights to inform scaling and sustainability.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ELP PROGRAM
The ELP is an innovative educational intervention aimed at equipping secondary school students with comprehensive knowledge about reproductive health. The program seeks to address gaps in life planning skills and foster informed decision-making among young people.
By piloting this program in public secondary schools, the ACCESS Project aims to:
- Enhance reproductive health literacy among adolescents.
- Promote healthy behaviors and reduce risks associated with unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
- Empower students with the tools and knowledge to make informed life choices.
Conclusion
The sensitization visits marked a significant step in mobilizing support for the ACCESS Project. By engaging key stakeholders and fostering collaborative partnerships, the foundation has been laid for the successful implementation of the project. The commitment demonstrated by these stakeholders shows the potential for impactful outcomes, driving the project’s mission to expand access to reproductive health education and services for women and girls in Oyo State.
