REPORT OF A 3-DAY WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL MEDIA TRAINING PROGRAM FOR PLAN FOUNDATION STAFF
HELD AT ACADEMY SUITES, IBADAN ON MARCH 4TH – 6TH, 2025.
ANCHORED BY: FLACK CONNECT COMMUNICATION
SPONSORED BY: AMPLIFYCHANGE
As part of its ongoing commitment to institutional capacity strengthening, PLAN Foundation successfully conducted a three-day Practical Media Training for its staff.
The training was proudly sponsored by AmplifyChange under the framework of the Accelerating Community Commitment Towards Expanding Sexual and Reproductive Health Services for Women and Girls in Oyo State (ACCESS Project). It was aimed at enhancing communication and media engagement skills within the organization.

The intensive training was facilitated by the Flack Connect Communication Team, who brought their extensive expertise in journalism, media production, and communication strategy.
Day 1: Mastering the Art of Interviews
The training kicked off with a comprehensive session on interview techniques. Mr. Adeniran, a member of the Flack Connect team, provided practical insights into the purpose and types of interviews, with a focus on broadcast media. Participants were introduced to pre-interview preparations, question formulation, and strategies for maintaining audience engagement during interviews.
The session also covered post-interview procedures such as editing and review, along with ethical considerations including confidentiality, informed consent, and avoiding manipulation. It concluded with an interactive Q & A segment, allowing participants to clarify key concepts and share personal experiences related to interviews in their professional roles.
Day 2: Scriptwriting for Media Production
On the second day, Mrs. Jadesola, also from the Flack Connect team, facilitated a session on scriptwriting—an essential skill for effective storytelling in media. Participants learned about script formats, tone, style, and how to integrate interview content into scripts.
The session also explored sound design and narrative structuring, emphasizing techniques for creating compelling scripts that align with organizational goals and resonate with target audiences. Attendees were guided through a practical, step-by-step script development process using real-world examples. The day concluded with another insightful Q&A session to reinforce learning.
Day 3: Documentary Production and Editing Skills
The final day, led by Mr. Ilesanmi of the Flack Connect Communication team, focused on documentary production as a powerful medium for advocacy and impact storytelling in the development sector. Participants examined how documentaries can amplify community voices and highlight project outcomes.
Hands-on sessions covered audio-visual integration, including the use of tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing and Adobe Audition for audio editing. Trainees learned the fundamentals of editing raw footage, adding subtitles and transitions, incorporating sound effects, and syncing audio to improve storytelling.
These practical sessions equipped staff with the skills to produce professional-quality media content that can be leveraged for advocacy campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and donor reporting.
Outcomes and Conclusion

The media training successfully met its objectives by building staff capacity in media production, storytelling, and communication strategy. Staff expressed increased confidence in conducting interviews, writing scripts, and producing impactful documentaries. These skills will significantly contribute to strengthening the visibility of PLAN Foundation’s initiatives, particularly the ACCESS Project, and other ongoing activities supported by AmplifyChange.
The training not only enhanced individual competencies but also reinforced PLAN Foundation’s organizational ability to communicate results, engage stakeholders, and advocate for social change through compelling media content.
